Who are the Akron Cardinals? We are a men's amateur team that competes in the Open (25+) Division of NEO Roy Hobbs Baseball. Our team was established in 2002, but many of the players on our roster have been in the league for several years. Are you guys any good? We like to think we are! Historically speaking, the Cardinals have not won any championships. Our team has always hit very well, but success in our league is dictated by pitching and traditionally, the Cardinals haven't had enough of it. (That may be where YOU come in.) Our core is a solid group of guys who are very good baseball players. Almost every player on our team played at a high level in high school and a handful have played both collegiately and professionally. When does the season begin/end? The season begins in mid April and the playoffs end in either late August or early September. As of 2010, we play a 17-game regular season schedule with double-elimination playoffs. When are the games played? We typically play one 9-inning game per week. Most games are played on Sundays with a few Saturdays mixed in. It is also sometimes necessary to play rainout makeup games on a weeknight if no other option is available. Game times vary, but typically begin anywhere between 10:00am and 4:30pm. Night games, although less common, usually begin at 7:00pm. Where are the games played? The league leases several fields throughout Northeast Ohio, but all of our games are played on fields that are located in the greater Akron area. Click HERE to view a map. What are the age requirements? You must turn at least 25 years old during the current calendar year. If you will be 25 years old by December 31st of this year, you are eligible. What if I'm not 25 years old? Is there somewhere else I can play? NEO Roy Hobbs also has divisions for 18+, 38+, 48+ and 55+. Contact the league directly for more information. Their web site is located HERE. Why should I want to play with the Akron Cardinals? The Number One comment we hear from players on our team is that they've never had so much fun playing baseball as they do with the Cardinals. And that makes them come back year after year regardless of wins and losses. We have a great group of guys that consider each other friends and we just have a really good time. Make no mistake, however. These guys are very competitive and want to win more than anything else. Their effort on the field is outstanding and they do everything they can to help us bring home the 'W' each week. But even after a loss, you've never seen a more laid back bunch of ball players.
